The Lords prayer is a dangerous prayer. Maybe the MOST dangerous prayer we pray.
Let’s review -
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen.
Most of us have prayed that prayer at one time or another, some of us many times a day. It doesn’t seem dangerous right? How can a prayer be dangerous anyway?
“And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.”
“Forgive us….as we forgive.”
As Christians, we are not asking God to forgive us as He would. We are asking Him to forgive us as we forgive others. I believe that holding onto something like forgiveness ends up doing more damage to yourself than it does to others. It degrades your character, it poisons your motivations, it skews your vision, and it sickens your heart.
No good comes from it, on the contrary, it causes the evil from that original offense to live on and not to die. Effecting other people’s lives in a negative way. What ground do you hold that you are crowned the one to judge someone who has done horrible things, but not to you. Should we all walk around judging and banishing everyone? What kind of world would that type of behavior result in? Would it be one that God would approve of, or Satan would approve of?
The idea that you cannot forgive the sinner without at the same time endorsing the sin is a predictable trap that those who oppose us would like to snare us up in. It is a silly idea, but it is one they use to desperately try to convict and label us with.
There is nothing wrong with judging people but be careful that you do it in the Biblical way, and that is out of love. So, while I may judge people in the way that I believe God wants us to, to people who may not understand my Christian values that may look to them like an endorsement of that person’s sinful actions. I will not change the way I behave based on the advice of people who would find joy in seeing me fall or stumble. I put my trust in God rather than earthly devils. He loves me, and He only wants the best for me. I cannot say the same for the agitators who will attempt to use this anyway they can cast me in a negative light, or to attack me for my Christian values. Have no doubt, that is the road they are going to take, it is one that gains traction instantly with those who already hate Christians.
I do not live my life worried about what other people will say about me. Anyone who lives their life based on others will be exposed as a fool. They will never find themselves until they stop living life to gain others acceptance. There is no strength in that, only weakness. With that said, I am not here to apologize, if you’re reading this expecting that from me then you are going to be waiting a long time. I am not obsessed with the idea of being loved and approved of by everyone as so many people are in this world today. So many hunting for likes and changing themselves to reflect what they think people want to see, all just to chase the dreams that other people have put in their heads.
My Christian values tell me that I am supposed to judge out of love and forgive as I wish to be forgiven.
I want people who have done horrible things to come to Jesus. I want the drug dealer to be saved, I want the pimp to be reborn, I want the criminal to kneel at the feet of Jesus to repent and ask for forgiveness, not thrown away and trampled on for the rest of their worldly existence by other sinners. God does awesome things with the broken people of this world. That is where His light can shine the brightest, I have seen it many times.
I do not live my life judging people out of anger or worldly emotions. I do not waste my energy on drama or trying to gain the acceptance of other people. Why would I chase that? Everyone here is a sinner just like I am, so why look sideways to gain acceptance and validation when I should be looking up to Him for it? Should all prison ministries end? Are the convicted also lost by default? Can a Christian really hate the sin, but love the sinner? For those of you unfamiliar with the expression, loving the sinner does not mean we accept the sin, nor does it mean we literally love the sinner. It means we show the same love of God to everyone. It means we still treat people with kindness and compassion as every Christian should.
Those of you who would put a line in the sand and say there are certain people who cannot be forgiven are claiming to know better than God. Those of you who would write off one soul would put yourself in danger of having yours written off. “Forgive us….as we forgive.”
A moral society does not mean a perfect society. There is no such thing, just like there is no perfect Christian, (save One). The morality part isn’t supposed to only have influence over our current choices and how we live our own lives, but in how we treat others. Where would you be if people decided to treat you like the person you were years ago, rather than the person who stands before them today? If a sinner repents and asks for forgiveness, is it really our place to decide if he/she gets it? No, it is not. It is however our place to judge in love and help in some way to get that person right with God and redeemed as a soul.
In closing, I decided to try a MagAmericans show idea where I invited all sorts of people onto the stream to talk, and that is what I did. All sorts of people, even the haters. The only regret I have is not considering the optics of having Bandit in the same stream as David. David was not aware that Bandit would be there until he saw him pop up in the stream, and I realize now it may not have been the best choice. However, I do not apologize for it, this was a MagAmericans show. I do not ignore that I am also associated deeply with 1776RM, but that does not and should not mean everything I do is endorsed by 1776RM. I am my own man as well, MagAmericans its own entity.
In reference to the ridiculous comments that I support, or we support, what Bandit did many years ago just because I let him on the stream, well, that is as I said, ridiculous and I addressed it above. I will not address it again.
